Historic Wakefield

Skills: WordPress, HTML 5

Historic Wakefield was a University project aimed at strenghten our knowledge of WordPress – a Content Managment System (CMS). The project consisted of a brief – but intensive – design excercise to provide a creative solution for the project and then a technical solution was devised using our CMS of choice.

My solution for the project utilised a number of standard WordPress plugins as well as select premium add-ons. The entire website was fully content managed with almost all aspects of the website editable by the user.

Fentimans Curiosity Cola

Skills: InDesign, Typography

This exercise was part of a wider subset of timed typographical exercises. The aim of these tasks was to create a suitable solution in a very short space of time. Often resources were limited and creative freedom none-existant.

For this task were were told to redesign the iconic Fentimans Curiosity Cola label. There was standard text that had to be featured on the label but other than that, the direction for it was down to us.

I think I was able to find a balance that worked quite well.

Winsor and Newton: Hokai

Skills: InDesign

Another exercise that was part of a wider subset of timed typographical exercises. The aim of this task was to create a suitable label in a very short space of time for a Winsor and Newton paint pot. The solution had to be purely typographic.

It can be difficult to appreciate the scale of the paint pot label however space was limited and type had to be presented at the most appropraite size that would be legible. I believe I achived that using a serif face that complimented the Winsor and Newton brand.

The resulting website was built in WordPress, the Content Management System and was built to work on devices of any size.
